Hello.

Here you'll find my writings, both fiction and non-fiction, better depicting my take on the world around me.

I'd Like to Thank the Academy

I’m no movie critic.

Often I really enjoy something only to find out that everyone else I went with wants to rant about it afterward. Or people talk about how amazing a movie is, but when I see it, all I can think it But like… why?

But I do really love the Oscars.

My mom’s best friend always hosts a party and when you get your assigned category right, you get one of those Lindt Easter bunnies (the ones wrapped in gold foil). She calls them the B’Oscars. Her name is also Barb, so it works perfectly.

I love it so much. It’s the perfect girls night of mothers, daughters, and friends. Some of us have seen a bunch of the movies. Some of us have seen next to none. But we all get our participation trophy… I mean… participation bunny?

All that to say, the last few years I’ve worked really hard to see every. single. nominated. movie. Last year I accomplished every movie but the foreign language films. This year, I’m not sure I will be quite as successful, but I’ve still got a few weeks, so we will see.

Not only have I become passionate about seeing them; I’ve also become passionate about tracking it all. And per usual, Josh has gently pushed me to share my work with the world. So here are downloadable PDFs of my Watchlist Tracker, as well as my Ballot.

I know the text is small on the ballot, but c’mon. I had a lot of things to write and I needed to keep everything congruent. Buy a magnifying glass.

Enjoy! And happy Oscar season!

P.S. Speaking of the Oscars, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri is in my top three favorite movies and it deserved so much more than it got last year, but bless Frances McDormand and this speech.
